Hospice of St. Mary's is a not-for-profit service that provides physical, psychological, spiritual care, and comfort to those who are terminally ill and to their families. Hospice also offers grief support to families and community members who have experienced a loss.
Founded in 1981, Hospice of St. Mary's was started by a group of community volunteers under the direction of Dr. Patrick Jarboe. After several decades, we continue to provide high quality and compassionate end-of-life care for our patients and their families.

Who we treat
Patients determined to be at the end stages of illness (doctor prognosis of six months or less to live) are entitled to care by Hospice of St. Mary's. Please understand that the six-month prognosis is merely a guideline. Hospice re-evaluates patients every 60 days and, as long as their conditions continue to decline, they are re-certified for hospice coverage for as long as they live.

A Hospice of St. Mary's nurse is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 301-994-3023 if you ever need to discuss a patient's eligibility for hospice services.

Payment and insurance
Hospice is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance policies. Insurance covers all hospice services and supplies related to the patient's illness. Hospice of St. Mary's provides care regardless of a patient's ability to pay.
The Hospice Board of Directors ensures ongoing support through fundraising, which helps offset the cost of care for those who are not insured. The hospice staff will assist families in finding out whether the patient is eligible for any coverage that he or she may not be aware of.

Our volunteers are vital members of the Hospice of St. Mary's team. They help families we serve deal with illness, grief and loss. Whether you choose to work directly with patients and families, or you choose to participate in any other Hospice of St. Mary's volunteer opportunities, you'll be making a difference in someone's life.

Join us for our Annual Service of Remembrance hosted at the new beautiful building at USM at Southern Maryland this year!
We encourage everyone in the community to come out and participate in an indoor luminary walk with opportunities to uniquely remember loved ones who have passed. If you are interested in having a luminary with your loved ones' name on it, please fill out the form below. You may also email a picture of your loved one to MSMH.Hospice@medstar.net if you would like it shared in the slideshow during the ceremony.

Hospice of St. Mary's 16th Annual Festival of Trees

This free community event showcases festive trees and wreaths sponsored and decorated by generous supporters. All proceeds benefit our local St. Mary's County Hospice community! Hospice of St. Mary's is a non-profit organization that supports patients and their families while relieving the symptoms and side effects of the seriously ill. Services are available anywhere in the community—in homes, at nursing facilities, and at the Hospice House in Callaway, MD. Bereavement coordinators offer grief support to anyone who has suffered loss in the community. Fundraisers, like Festival of Trees, allow Hospice to provide the excellent care and support programs our community relies on.
